Recreate Or Start Over
One thing I learned from my ancestors is that it is possible to recreate yourself. I know of story after story of someone who ran into a problem, a dead end, or just disliked where he was at and chose to start over. One ancestor left England to find religious freedom. My grandfather left war ravaged Germany to start a new life with new opportunities. He found success in southern California and then uprooted and moved to northern California to start a new business.
Some chose to stay physically and emotionally where they were at when life got hard. It didn’t really improve. They moved from one problem to the next with the same sour attitude. I know you know people like that. I hope that you are not firmly in that camp. If you recognize that you have a foot in that camp, I invite you to turn around and start anew.
Find A Purpose
So often people tell me that they cannot change. They can’t see how things could be different. The answer is simple, but the execution can be a lot for someone coming out of the gloom. I know, I was there. I still have my moments when it seems too hard, or I just can’t see where I am going.
To overcome such times of doubt and self-denial, find a purpose. I hear people say that you must find your life’s purpose, but that may be jumping the gun.Let’s look at my grandfather for example.
He had to take over the family estate while he was in high school. He wanted to be an engineer, but his father became deathly ill and was no longer able to continue managing things at home. Reluctantly, my grandfather left school and started the management responsibilities. He changed the business from farming to horse breeding. He wanted something other than what was presented to him.
Because of World War II, he lost everything except his family, and he lost them too for a while. He didn’t give up hope, he kept going in a new place in West Germany. He then took the opportunity to emigrate to the United States and start over once again. My grandfather had a good life and did well. Then he and my dad decided to go into business for themselves in northern California. He was driven by a desire to become more. He was always creating something.
Whether he fulfilled his life purpose or just found purpose, I really can’t say, but I know that he fulfilled a lot of dreams. Including some of mine.
Find A Way To Transform
No matter what you do in life, find some way to transform yourself to be better. Small, incremental steps are your best path to success. Find a purpose and hold on to it. Adjust as you gain more inspiration, and keep looking for that inspiration. As you look for inspiration, you will find it.
