Master Your Mind In A Mastermind

Sitting in a group of accomplished professionals is refreshing. That is, if you are prepared for the experience. I attended a mastermind type of event over the last two days. In many ways it is an experience that I cannot describe. In other ways, it is like being put into a washing machine and coming out refreshed and exhausted all at once.

It may sound like something that is out of your league or too uncomfortable for you to try, but I want to share some encouraging ideas. It will help you get to your goals much faster.

Where And When

In this case, we were at a home on the coast of California. We stayed in nearby hotels and we ate together for most of our meals so we could connect better individually and as a group. We gathered in a small living room and shared ideas based on a purposeful path. Our mentor and leader had a plan but did not cut us off to meet every waypoint he had planned. In the end, we came to most of them anyway.

For you, your mastermind may be one that you want to hold with a team at work, or with your family.

I recommend a comfortable place and a private one. Help those participating feel safe. Set rules so that you can maintain that feeling. It can be as short as an hour if your group is needing nurturing and time to acclimate to the idea.

So long as you maintain the feeling of safety, it will be a success. Does that mean you will accomplish everything you want? No. But you will help people grow, and solutions will be closer than they were before.

Repeat As Needed

The great thing about masterminds is that they are free flowing, so the need for them can be arranged in the same way. The key is to help people come to the point of synergy. As they feel it is OK to be vulnerable, magic will happen. New ideas will flow, and trust will build.

As this happens, participants will desire to come together again. The feeling of unity and growth will drive them to do more and feel better about mistakes as they feel less judged.

If you like what you are reading, realize that I cannot fully express the great lessons and value I gained from two short days with great minds, no matter who they are, or their station in life. We all have something to contribute to the dance of life. As person committed to living a life of Genshai, I encourage you to do the same. It is to “Never treat another person in a manner that would make them feel small – including yourself.” This provides the safety for your successful mastermind.

The joy of life comes through the trials you experience and learn from.
