How to Find Healing Of Body And Mind From The Past – Relationship Retool

Look To The Past For Healing

The healing arts are not new. Too often we discredit the skills of our ancestors in dealing with illness.

I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather the last few days, and I know that in the past I would have turned to harsh pharmaceuticals to try to relieve the ills I have been feeling.

I have learned a few things over the last several years that have helped me when feeling ill to heal faster and in a more healthy way.

Where Did That Come From?

At times, it makes my head turn when I think of what I do today. Really, where did this come from? Well, it came from the past. The very remedies my ancestors used still work today, and often much better in the long term than what we have today.

Don’t get me wrong. I am grateful for modern medicine. I would not be alive today without it. Then again, perhaps the illness of my youth may never have occurred if I had known then what I know now.

I have learned about herbs from a friend who has learned the art of the apothecary. She is talented and wise. I have seen her provide valuable service to my family and others. She went back to our not so distant past and found answers that have been very useful.

Caring For Self

I recently attended a very moving training that has helped me see new possibilities in my life, but coming off of that high feeling, my body took a hit. Having learned that there are highs and lows in life, and to be aware of them. I knew that my energy would drop after the training and I thought I was taking care of myself as I came back down, but I let some old habits get the best of me. Don’t drink the Koolaid! Ugh!

I knew I had blown it. Then I started looking at my diet and taking better care of myself. I also started using herbs to help with my symptoms. The thing about herbs is that they also can take care of some of those bugs we get. Our modern medicines are derived from most of these herbs, but concentrated in a way that can lead to lots of side effects. Choosing the natural path is often safer, but it takes more awareness of our bodies and minds.

Grandma Knew Best

You may remember grandma telling you to take some remedy or to bundle up. We scoff at such things today, but there was cause for it. Being aware and preventing would often keep people rather healthy. Sure, there were some nasty communicable diseases that we needed modern medicine to eradicate, but most could be kept away when care was taken.

Sometimes the wisest thing we can do is to listen to our own bodies. I know that when I started wearing a knit cap to bed it seemed weird, but somehow I knew it would help. Winters aren’t as bad for my sinuses now. As a matter of fact, they aren’t bad at all. Oh yeah, people always used to wear caps to bed. Huh, did they know something we don’t?

Maybe it is time to learn a little more about healing from your past. It might help more than you know.
